Edited by: Drek Grapper on 21/06/2007 14:03:38 I've had an idea floating around in my head to have CCP implement something along the lines of a 'dueling arena' in systems. All the time i spend scanning the system for a suitable target drives me crazy with boredom. (i am not a pirate, i always choose a fair fight if i can)
It would be nice if you could 'log' into the arena in a particular system stating what ship you are flying etc and be 'matched' up with a pilot in the same type of ship (same ship class). We could be evemailed or just be given a warp in point in which to meet your 'adversary'. Winner gets the loot and maybe we have an initial 'down payment' or bet perhaps which the winner takes as well.
It would be so much easier to find a willing PVPe'r this way than bloody scanning the belts for hours. CCP could use a gate which can restrict certain ship classes from entering thus ensuring a 'fair' contest.
The idea needs work but i would be keen to hear feedback and comments on this.

I think that was the point of his statement. He said, "I can almost guarantee that you will get a fight." He didn't say it would be the duel you're looking for.
ya i know what he what he was getting at. I chose to take it at face value for the point in favour of my idea. Although at this stage it's not going down too well as it is. - Michael Schumacher won many a formula one race. It is called "Testserver"
QFT
If you want to duel, go to the test server. You can always find someone who will fight you (in specified dueling locations even), and replacing ships is free! What more can you ask for?
I get that you can use Test server but it's just not the same if there is nothing to loose! The whole point of this idea is that prospective solo PVP'ers (new palyers/PVP'ers) could find a fight without all the hassle of getting ganked or hanging around an ss for 3 hours.
I have just started my PVP activity and short of being in a PVP corp or ganking anyone i see in a belt, there are currently not alot of options for solo pvp. I have bumped into a few people in local who will meet for duels and thats cool..but all the waiting around is bloody dull. This idea kind of formalises a fight between two consenting parties. - Michael Schumacher won many a formula one race. Read my first post. It's not 'risk free'.
It needs no effort and it doesnt make you venture into dangerous areas where you have no idea what can be around next gate. That is called riskless
Yes but this will be a perfect place for a noob or new PVP'er to test his mettle and skills againsed a similar ship in a fair fight.
This would help progress the players skills in combat and help the player to learn how different fittings affect ship performance and so on.
Hence a new pilot will come out of the experience a much wiser and competent pilot and hence be ready to go out into the wide universe and play the game (or another facet of the game) with alot more confidence. Hell it might even positively enhance the lack of 1v1 PVP that alot of players feel are missing from the game these days. - Michael Schumacher won many a formula one race. If you stage PvP in eve it ceases to become Eve, half the thrill is the hunt, then the adrenaline rush and then 20 seconds of pew pew.
The game doesnt need changing one bit.

Read the flippin post...it's NOT RISK FREE. Only thing you won't be carrying is loads of expensive stuff in your cargo...but then again, what PVP'er would??
Edit: and maybe in this said arena they could make it that more loot survives than normal so the winner gets something and the looser looses it all (as in a normal pvp situation). - Michael Schumacher won many a formula one race. Originally by: Billy Sastard I think you may be looking at the game the wrong way... The point of playing eve is not PvP... PvP is a means to an end. The various forms of PvP range from piracy to defending ones space in 0.0. EVE is not something like WOW or DAOC where there is a place to go to specifically fight other players. I think this is where you are going wrong. The whole of the EVE universe is a PvP arena, you can either go out and find fights, or wait for the fight to come to you, but its not going to be as simple as going to an arena and getting a match with someone. Even for the simple fact that adding an arena like this would, in a way, break the 'reality' of the eve universe. Overall it would be a bad idea to add any sort of consensual PvP area, as this is not really meant to be how EVE is to be played.
I see your point.
It would just be nice for the casual player to find some heated action without having to wait around for 2 hours to do so. This will have no effect on other parts of the game and might even make pvp more accesable to a wider player base. Who then might even venture forth into the game as a pvp'er and not a carebear. I see this more as a stepping stone...
But yeah again, point taken. It's just an idea i thought i would share anyways. Strange how so many people get thier panties in a twist about it lol! - Michael Schumacher won many a formula one race. Just for the record....i have never played wow or any other online game. So from that perspective i have no idea or refference point as to what impact it might have on the game long term.

Originally by: James Adams Ok, I totally fail to see why people are so opposed to this idea. Don't get me wrong, I'm not for a WoW style battleground, but Arena, EvE style would be bloody awesome. As OP said, make a system with an arena in it (if someone gives me the EVE is not for casual PvP crap I'm gonna blow a fuse, we already have the gallente what-not arranging "pointless" PvP tournaments, the caldari race and stuff - All of which are great fun, both to watch and participate in IMO)
Back on track...
Setup a form of registration menu, stating time, what ship class you want to fly (you bring the goddamn ship and modules, no freebies here), whatever restrictions CCP would deem appropriate to include are selected. 20 minuttes before the match you get a warning to get your butt in gear (maybe have a tournament corp in the system with whom you automaticca have enough standing for a jumpclone to facilitate quick transportation). Some form of deadspace arena is spawned which ONLY the contestants can warp to (or maybe put them inside a forcefield and allow spectators). The loser goes POP, the winner takes the opponents loot, the opponents bet and a percentage of the bets placed on the loser.
There we have a great way for training players in PvP, the loser looses exactly the same as in "normal" PvP, thus you can forget the whole "risk free" bull, budding PvP'ers can (maybe) earn som cash, and great PvP'ers get a place to show off how l337 they are... Not to mention sweet entertainment and another way to make money.
There is only one way to rig this too - The bets have to come from somewhere, the ships have to come from somewhere, but as you could bet on the opponent with you main, then have your alt lose the fight on purpose - So maybe sidebetting is not a good idea, but apart from that I think it sounds sweet.
Hope you read it all :)
